I think if you have an open mind, a drive to be successful, and you actually want to continue your education in the field of art, this scholarship could provide you with the perfect opportunity. It has helped me more than I could imagine, and I am glad to have experienced the opportunity.
My Story
When I first started applying for college, I was not worried about the qualifications such as grades or test scores; instead, it was the challenge of being able to afford college. The thought of taking out thousands of dollars in student loans at such a young age is frightening. Utilizing the Beguelin Scholarship, I was able to purchase all of my art supplies, pay many school fees, and obtain professional attire appropriate for student teaching. I can honestly say that without this scholarship, I would have struggled significantly in my initial two years and would not have continued. Now, thanks to my experiences at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, I am a student, practicing artist and future teacher who wants to provide students with an enriching and profound understanding of how art is integral to human life. I hope to guide students to recognize images across both cultural and historical contexts and to help expand their knowledge of the world around them.
